I’ve been working on the plans for my own renovation.  I admit I get kind of obsessed, and no sit down with a cup of coffee is complete without pen and paper as I continuously evolve the design.

When people talk about a “successful renovation”, they’re usually talking about the end result.

Did it look good?
Did the kitchen photograph well?
Did the house gain value?

And of course, those things matter. I care deeply about good design and well-considered homes. But over time - through renovating my own properties and working with many different clients - I’ve come to realise that renovation success is never just about how things look at the end.

Have you ever had an idea that just won’t go away? Something that might go quiet for a few months, or sometimes even a year or so, but then there it is again - waving “remember me?”
